Playoffs are upon us as with the first puck being dropped tonight at 4:00 pm EST from Warrior Ice Arena in Boston. With this comes our final edition of EWHC Stars of the Month for the 2017-18 season. The league would like to thank all of its players for a great inaugural season and looks forward to many more great seasons to come. That being said, here are your Stars of the Month for February.
Forward - Taylor Girouard East Coast Wizards
February's Rookie of the Month goes to a young star in Taylor Girouard (Burlington, Mass.) of the East Coast Wizards. Girouard was sensational in the month of February with two multi-goal performances allowing her to score 4 goals and 1 assist. In the Wizard's final game of the regular season, Girouard played the part of hero for her team by scoring both equalizers against the Northern Cyclones, including coming off the bench to score with just 11 seconds left in the game, forcing the game into overtime.
Defenseman - Rachel Walsh East Coast Wizards
The Defenseman selection this month goes to East Coast Wizards defenseman Rachel Walsh (Groton, Mass.). In her 3 appearances in February, Walsh contributed 2 points to her team this month, with 1 goal and 1 assist. A newcomer to the team this season, Walsh has been an asset both defensively and offensively to the young Wizards team. Walsh's season totals include 3 goals and 1 assist.
Goaltender - Chloe Beaubein Ontario Hockey Academy Juniors
Ontario Hockey Academy Juniors goaltender Chloe Beaubien (Colorado) is February's Goaltender of the Month. In her only appearance in the month of February, the net-minder pulled out a win against the league's best offensive team in OHA Tardiff team after making 25 saves on the day.
Rookie - Sumeri Kierkosz-Ueno New Jersey Rockets
The Rookie of the Month for February goes to Rockets forward Sumeri Kierkosz-Ueno (Bronx, N.Y.). Ueno was impressive in February scoring 1 goal and 2 assists in the month alone. Most notable was her performance against the East Coast Wizards on February 9th, where she put away helpers on both goals to pick up the draw.
Honorable Mention -Kenady Nevicosi Northern Cyclones
Kenady Nevicosi (Breckenridge, Col.) had a solid month scoring 4 points in just 2 appearances in February with 1 goal and 3 assists. Nevicosi, a newcomer to the Cyclones squad this season, has 5 goals and 11 assists on the season.
January saw the entire league compete in the league's final showcase of the season. Now, we've hit the final stretch of the season with playoffs right around the corner. That being said, lets take a look back and honor our Stars of the Month for January.
Forward - Cassidy McNeely Walpole Express
Cassidy McNeely (South East, Mass.) takes home Forward of the Month honors for the second time this season . McNeely had a spectacular month in January recording 9 points in 11 appearances, accounting for 3 goals and 6 helpers in the month alone. Another strong performance from the forward lands her as January's forward of the month for the second time this season.
Defenseman - Cassi Ronan Walpole Express
Another second time honoree, Cassi Ronan (Franklin, Mass.) had a solid performance at the blue line for the Express. Collecting a total of 12 points in 11 appearances in January, Ronan's offensive presence was hard for other teams to ignore and the defenseman has certainly established herself as an offensive threat. December's Defenseman of the Month continues her reign through January.
Goaltender - Lucy Brumberger New Jersey Rockets
The Goaltender of the Month nomination for January goes to Lucy Brumburger (Naraberth, N.J). Brumberger made both of her appearances in net for the Rockets during the League Showcase in Bedford and despite losing both decisions Brumberger still had an excellent showing making 80 saves in the month alone with 4 goals against. Most notably, Brumberger's performance against the OHA Tardiff. Against the Tardiff, Brumberger held the league's best goal scoring team to just 1 goal on the day making 49 saves in the process and posting a save percentage of .980. A truly stellar performance against the Tardiff ears Brumberger this months nomination.
Rookie - Annaliese Meier Ontario Hockey Academy Tardiff
A newcomer to the list is Annaliese Meier (Manitoba) who has been selected as January's Rookie of the Month. The forward's 3 goals 2 assists in 7 appearances helped lift her team past the Northern Cyclones in the Bedford Showcase. Meier's efforts in January gives her the nod as Rookie of the Month.
Honorable Mention - Alyssa Murphy Walpole Express
January's honorable mention goes to Alyssa Murphy (Kingston, Mass.) of the Walpole Express. In January, Murphy scored 4 goals in 7 appearances and helped her team win 7 of those decisions. A respectable month for the Express forward treats her to the Honorable Mention for January.
Walpole, Mass. --- Express forward Madison Scheinberg (Florida, USA) has committed to Suffolk University (NCAA DIII -- NEHC) for the fall of 2018. So far this season, Scheinberg has scored 1 goal and 5 assists in 16 appearances.
Scheinberg is the third player on her team to commit to a college program and the 14th overall. The EWHC would like to congratulate Scheinberg and looks forward to following her success in the future!
